People tend to gain a lot of weight during the holiday season. Thanksgiving and the start of the yuletide festivities give people a lot of reason to eat and gain excess pounds. The treats are always tempting, especially the sweets.

Trying to resist the urge to take a bite of what the season has to offer is a great challenge. However, with a little discipline and will power on your eating habits, you will be spared from the bitter regret of gaining weight over the holidays.

Here are some helpful tips:
1. Create your limitations when it comes to food

Since the holiday season is a time for eating, drinking and merry-making, setting a limitation on your food intake does not necessarily mean not eating at all.

You can eat but you have to
be moderate. Celebrating the season does not necessarily mean pigging out on everything.

If someone offers you some sweets, you can indulge without having to finish a whole tray of it.
2. Sit where the sweets are far from your sight

Avoid the temptation by sitting in a place where everything that is packed with calories is not within your easy reach. If you will take a seat in front of the sweets, you will only end up grabbing one after another. If you know that temptation would be hard to resist, stay away from it. Limit your intake and stop there.

3. Make healthy choices by having good alternatives

When a whole table of goodies is before you, try to
choose the healthiest option. For instance, if it is a choice between fatty foods and vegetables, load up your plate with the vegetables.

Carrots and celery are both healthy choices just as long as you take it easy with the dips. Practice moderation in your intake of meats and other treats such as cheese.

However, if it is a choice between cheese and cookies, cheese is a better choice because you can benefit from its calcium and protein content. Too much can be fattening so keep in mind to be moderate. After all, the nutritional benefits of cheeses are far better than the empty calories in cookies.

Discipline is the key in order to keep fit during the holiday season. It is important not to give up and to stay focused. In any case if you find yourself giving in to the temptation, consider getting back on track and make up for it. You can stay focused by creating a plan, sticking to it and by following these healthy tips.
